Kokanee Springs RV Park started back in the early 1940’s when the Carlson family farmed the land West of Highway 31 (formerly 759) at the entrance of Seba Beach, Alberta. The area was used to grow wheat, hay and graze cattle. In 1966, Earland Carlson (the father) sold the farm to one of his sons, Eric who sub-divided the land, sold off sections and kept the rest for his mining business. The South West corner of the campground was a gravel pit during that time. Eric mined this land and sold the gravel for a living. He then started his own family, by getting married and having kids. He lived on the North Hill of the campground which was a 3 acre parcel, north of the driving range where the maintenance shop and a full serviced group site is currently located. In 1986, twenty years later, Eric’s two sons convinced their father to build a campground with the unused land. They planted trees, bulldozed the back, cut in campsites, built roads and put in a driving range in the entrance area. In 1987 they serviced 15 out of 20 campsites in the front and built a foundation for a building. Later that year they moved an old farm house onto the property and renovated it into a restaurant. In 1988 they opened for business. Eric ran the campground, his wife, Gwenn, ran the restaurant, and their sons helped in everyway they could. Business took off causing them to be extremely busy and requiring a lot of hard work throughout the years.

In 1998, ten years later, the Carlson family decided to sell their business. The new buyer was a man from Saskatchewan named Terry Kerslake. He was new at the campground business but had a vision to improve the campground. He built showers and a pump house for the front part of the campground, put a 5th wheel trailer in for an office and improved the park where he could. Terry had plenty of help. His sister ran the restaurant and his parents ran the office and did everything they could. Terry looked after the customers and the family did a wonderful job running the business.

In March 2003, five years later, the Kerslake family decided to sell the campground to a resident of Seba Beach named Len Quaghebeur, which is when everything took a whole new change. Len has a background in business marketing and fundraising and a number of hobbies including building, planning and development. He had a much bigger vision of what a campground should be, and therefore, used his expertise to carry out what needed to be done for the campground. Like the previous owner, Len was new at the campground business but wasted no time getting started. In the spring of 2003, he started servicing all the existing sites with power, water and sewage. By the fall of 2005, he had replaced all the old buildings with new ones and built another 65 new campsites where the gravel pit was located. In the winter of 2006, he renovated and built a brand new restaurant.

Today, tomorrow and well into the future, Kokanee Springs RV Park will continue to improve. Being a 60 acre park, the work never runs out. The sites are spacious but well treed, giving the camper the privacy they need. There are numerous amenities including a playground, new showers with laundry facilities, a cook house, horse shoe pits and walking trails throughout the sites, crawling with all sorts of wildlife. The campground is only a 45 minute drive from Edmonton and close to everything a camper will ever need. Len welcomes everyone to visit. Whether you are a senior, family or mature couple, looking for a home for your RV or just wanting to visit, you’ll find it all right here at Kokanee Springs RV Park.

Have a wonderful summer!
